Representatives from the two companies have agreed in principal to the sale of Steinhouse Supply to Southern Pipe & Supply, effective Nov. 4.

Southern Pipe & Supply, one of the largest wholesalers of plumbing, heating, air-conditioning (HVAC), industrial, mechanical and waterworks materials in the country, has been family-owned and operated since 1938. Southern Pipe and Supply also has been named recently as one of the top 100 medium-size companies to work for in America by Fortune magazine.

As the oldest plumbing supply house in Nashville, Tennessee, Steinhouse Supply has adapted successfully to the evolution of the Nashville market for nearly 60 years, Southern Pipe & Supply noted.

Southern Pipe President and CEO Jay Davidson represents the fourth generation of his family to lead the company.

“We are fortunate to have the Steinhouse team become part of the Southern Pipe family,” Davidson said. “We are so excited about our next chapter together. The outstanding reputation that Steinhouse has created over the years is amazing and we look forward to building on that as we move forward together.”

After 58 years of serving the Nashville area, Steinhouse Supply President Lee Steinhouse and his brothers made the difficult decision to sell the company their father started in 1962.

“We think the decision is in the best interest of our employees and customers,” Steinhouse said. “It is clear the culture and core values of our two firms are closely aligned.  We could not be more pleased with this announcement.”

Lee Steinhouse and his brothers, John and Jim, are retiring but will assist with the transition. Jim’s oldest daughter Amy, who represents the third generation of the Steinhouse family, will continue with Southern Pipe in a significant role.

Southern Pipe & Supply was the 2013 recipient of the Supply House Times Supply House of the Year award.
