The construction industry faces a workforce gap of half a million, intensified by the impending retirement eligibility of the baby boomer generation. Women, making up just 10% of the industry (4% in the skilled trades), represent a significant untapped resource.

During the recent ASA Women in Industry ELEVATE conference in Nasvhille (that set a new attendance mark with more than 425 attendees), it was announced InSinkErator Director of Wholesale Sales Rebecca Falish is the recipient of the 2024 Alice A. Martin Woman of the Year Award.

Since its establishment in 2022, WiPP has been committed to cultivating a vibrant and inclusive environment for women in plumbing and piping.

Christy Maloney and Araceli Lee, part of the Women in Industry Membership sub-committee, had a conversation about their experiences in the industry. They reflected on their journey and what they would say to their younger selves.

Meet Ashley Thurman, Operations Manager for Lewis Marketing. She wants the industry to continue to recognize and invest in empowerment, encouragement and networking opportunities.

Meet Teri Rogers, Vice President of Marketing at APR Supply Co. She believes in celebrating contributions of standout women through recognitions and nominations for industry awards. Having visible role models is crucial.

Meet Stephanie Porter, Director of Marketing & Brand at Porter Pipe & Supply. She believes the industry has come a long way in supporting and empowering women, but one area that could benefit from improvement is maternity leave.

Meet Chris Nicosia, CEO & Principal of Delco Sales. She believes the PHCP-PVF industry is fantastic with many incredible women serving it and should continue to platform and acknowledging these fantastic women.

Meet Christine Murphy, Director of Supply Chain Planning at NIBCO. She believes companies can provide women with opportunities for personal and professional growth through educational and networking events, sponsorship and mentorship programs, and support work-life balance.

Meet Shannon Irby, National Account Manager New Construction for Pfister Faucets. She believes it's important to bring light to women who have been successful and are able to have both family and career and not being forced to sacrifice one for the other.
