ASA members participating in NetworkASA 2013 in Washington, D.C., Oct. 2-4 experienced a wide range of emotions during their stay in our nation’s capital.

The Industrial Careers Pathway Steering Committee recently held its annual retreat in Rosemont, Ill., where it reviewed its current strategic plan, refined its action goals and progress metrics and developed a new three-year plan to advance the company’s mission to meet the need for a skilled industrial distribution workforce that will be challenged by an expected demographic shift.

Earlier this year, I embarked on several busy weeks of travel which involved representing ASA at a series of industry events throughout the country. As my predecessors as ASA president can tell you, this involves providing association updates at various regional meetings, including gatherings of the Midwest Distributors Association, the Wholesalers Association of the Northeast, the North Central Wholesalers Association, the Southern Wholesalers Association, the Western Suppliers Association and others.

A reoccurring theme of late in the PHCP/PVF wholesale distribution industry has been the need to attract young talent into the workforce.

 Next spring, ASA and its independent regional affiliates will release a comprehensive employee and executive compensation report.

 The American Supply Association officially has agreed to partner in Design & Construction Week, a joint venture of the National Kitchen and Bath Association and the National Association of Home Builders.
