ASA Strengthens Benchmarking Offerings

New weekly, monthly reports enhance Materials Market Digest and annual OPR

ASA has taken significant steps in strengthening its cadre of benchmarking reports available to its ASA members.  The collection of reports, developed under the banner of  ASA Intelligence Reports, represent the latest efforts taken by ASA in addressing goals set forth in its long-term strategic plan.

“Not in our recent memory has market analysis and the sharing of information been more important to our members than today,” stated Mike Adelizzi, ASA’s executive vice president. ““An association exists to support its members with activities, tools and resources that allow them to run the most profitable businesses possible.  With the ASA Intelligence Reports, our members will have timely information and analysis not available anywhere else.  As this industry’s national association, it is our role to support our members in both good times and in those of crisis – it is why we exist, it is why companies join and it is why companies renew their memberships year after year.  These benchmarking reports are just one example of how membership in ASA can help a company weather the economic storm.”

The collection of ASA Intelligence Reports includes the following:

A Market Analysis for the Industry Executive:  A monthly sales and market analysis report that is offered free and exclusively to ASA members. Included in this report are demographics like sales volume, primary business emphasis and geographic regions, detailed results by state and area of operations and overall economic indicators.

The Weekly Pulse:  This weekly report is a combination of statistics and observations from distributors around the country and manufacturers across all product lines. It came in response to members requesting a way to exchange information about how they’re handling business decisions and navigating the challenges that arise daily and seem to change from week to week. This report is available exclusively to ASA members and is provided as a member service from ASA.

Materials Market Digest:  Available monthly via e-mail to all members of ASA, this report is designed to keep readers informed of important trends and recent changes in the areas of carbon steel and stainless, alloy steel and principal alloying metals, non-ferrous metals and alloys (including copper), ferrous and non-ferrous scrap, crude oil and natural gas, resins and paperboard. It is prepared by Ed Scott., economist and renowned industry icon, and supported by ASA's Vendor Member Division.

Operating Performance Report:  This study is an easy-to-understand, actionable tool for industry firms to evaluate their company's operating results in order to pinpoint strengths and weaknesses and improvement opportunities. Details of survey results that appear in this report are broken down into primary business segments in all the PHCP and PVF industries. Within each segment, data is shown for all participating firms, as well as by sales volume size and a special analysis that focuses on high profit firms is included. Each report also includes a 20-year trend report for each business segment. Participation in this annual report is fee-based and open to all distributors in the PHCP and PVF industry.
