The rising cost of fuel is helping to spur growth of tankless water heaters such as the Rinnai, according to Robert Kirkpatrick, national sales manager. The typical water heater tank could represent up to 40% of the gas usage in a house. A tankless product can save up to 50% of that gas usage.

The total tankless market currently represents about 3% of the water heating category and may grow to 10% in five years, he said. The tankless industry is doubling year after year, building on a bigger base each year, he said.
