The Plumbing Manufacturers Institute has released a statement on behalf of its membership that urges sponsors of existing North American building industry trade shows to support and co-sponsor the consolidation of industry trade shows by next year.

Barbara Higgens, PMI's executive director, continues to have discussions with executives from the partners of the North American Exposition - the American Supply Association, the Canadian Institute of Plumbing and Heating, and the Plumbing-Heating-Cooling-Contractors - National Association - to establish common objectives and outline a framework for trade show consolidation.

PMI has convened a trade show consolidation committee, co-chaired by Chuck Dowd, president of Delta Faucet Co., and Linda Mayer, senior vice president/marketing and product development at Moen.

A subcommittee of the consolidation committee met Aug. 16 at the National Hardware Show in Chicago.

"It was a very successful meeting," Higgens said. A number of guests attended the meeting, including representatives of NEX and Stan Wolfson, executive director of the American Society of Plumbing Engineers.

Higgens also met with Cecilia Balazs of the National Kitchen & Bath Association in late August.
