F.W. Webb establishes Veteran Workforce Development Fund at Boston Children’s Hospital

FW Webb Veteran Funds
F.W. Webb Co.
November 18, 2025

Veterans, military families, and children receiving care will gain meaningful assistance through F.W. Webb’s $200,000 contribution to Boston Children’s Hospital. The donation creates the F.W. Webb Veteran Workforce Development Fund with $100,000 and directs another $100,000 to the existing F.W. Webb Extraordinary Needs Fund for Military and Veteran Families.

The F.W. Webb Veteran Workforce Development Fund supports Boston Children’s holistic approach to employee recruitment and advancement by helping the hospital attract, retain, and engage veteran candidates and employees. Funding will help staff obtain certifications such as the Certified Military Veteran Recruiter designation and subsidize military-specific recruiting events. These efforts complement Boston Children’s existing relationships with programs like Edge4Vets, a group that helps veterans with resume creation and interview preparation.

In addition to advancing workforce development, F.W. Webb continues its support for patients and families. Established in 2021, the F.W. Webb Extraordinary Needs Fund for Military and Veteran Families assists patients with non-medical expenses such as mortgage payments, utility bills, and food vouchers. Because the fund has no administrative overhead, patients and their families receive every dollar donated.

“Helping veterans begin rewarding civilian careers makes the new F.W. Webb Veteran Workforce Development Fund an effort we’re proud to champion alongside the incredible team at Boston Children’s Hospital,” said Jeff Pope, Owner and President of F.W. Webb Company. “We’re equally proud to continue providing stability for patients and their families by sharing critical resources that can make a profound impact on a child’s recovery.”

“We thank F.W. Webb for establishing the F.W. Webb Veteran Workforce Development Fund—it truly makes a difference in our efforts to engage with the community and ensure our work environment accommodates our veteran staff,” said Jim Smith, Director, Workforce EDI at Boston Children’s. “At Boston Children’s Hospital, we care deeply about the success of veterans on our team, and value the unique experiences and knowledge they provide in advancing our mission.”

The fund builds on Boston Children’s ongoing employee-engagement efforts, including employee-led groups that facilitate cross-functional communication and develop a stronger community. Its veterans’ group, VALOR, is open to all employees, and allows veteran and non-veteran staff to connect with senior leadership and share input about the hospital’s benefits and policies.

“Boston Children’s Hospital succeeds with a highly skilled workforce, and with the qualifications they possess, veterans readily adapt to the complex environment here, whether it’s in leadership, IT, clinical services, or other critical roles,” said James Cole, Workforce Development Consultant, Boston Children’s. “Thanks to the F.W. Webb Veteran Workforce Development Fund, our team can overcome the sometimes-challenging task of mapping veteran backgrounds to non-military roles.”

While the Workforce Development Fund creates long-term career opportunities, the Extraordinary Needs Fund addresses immediate patient needs. As a fund of last resort, it provides a crucial lifeline to children and their families if other funding sources are unavailable. Resources are shared with patients following an in-depth review by Boston Children’s social work department.

“The need to cover non-medical expenses never ceases, making F.W. Webb’s continued donation to the Extraordinary Needs Fund especially important for children and their loved ones,” said Pamela Chamorro, Senior Director of Social Work at Boston Children’s. “These contributions improve patient outcomes, so our team truly appreciates receiving this invaluable support.”

F.W. Webb’s donation reflects the company’s core missions: developing viable career pathways, improving the future of the communities it serves, and supporting families—a priority for a family-oriented, family-owned company. Additionally, the company’s commitment to veterans extends to its own staff, as F.W. Webb proudly employs veterans across its nine-state footprint, including within its leadership team. Most importantly, these contributions help make a lasting difference for patients receiving world-class care at Boston Children’s Hospital.
