As we celebrate Women’s History Month and Women in Construction Week, Supply House Times is shining the spotlight on 10 influential women who are leading the PHCP-PVF industry to great success.

Amy Steinhouse Newman

Outsides Sales, Southern Pipe and Supply

How long have you been in the industry?

I grew up in the plumbing supply industry. My grandfather founded Steinhouse Supply Company in 1962. As a third-generation Steinhouse, I spent summers and school holidays working in the business. Officially, I’ve been employed for 15 years, 10 years with Steinhouse Supply Co., and 5 years with Southern Pipe and Supply in outside sales.

What is the most rewarding aspect of your career in PHCP-PVF?

The most rewarding aspect of my career is the opportunity to build lasting relationships, both with customers and vendors. Being part of a family legacy and continuing the tradition of excellent service with Southern Pipe and Supply is incredibly fulfilling. I also enjoy the problem-solving aspect of the business, helping customers find the right solutions, and seeing the direct impact our work has on their projects. Mentoring and guiding the next generation in the industry brings me a deep sense of satisfaction, as well.

What do you wish more people understood/knew about the plumbing industry?

I wish more people understood just how essential the plumbing industry is to everyday life. From clean drinking water to proper sanitation, plumbing plays a crucial role in public health and safety. I also wish more young people saw plumbing as a viable and rewarding career path. There’s a high demand for skilled workers. With an aging workforce, the industry is in desperate need of new talent. It’s a field where you can build a stable, well-paying career, with plenty of room for growth.
