“Residential/Commercial” valve bullets from Apollo, reflecting metrics through the end of March 2018 unless otherwise noted:
- Commodity metal costs remain steady/high. Copper averaged $3.07/ lb. in March. Steel, zinc and nickel all are up sharply for the year.
- The round of valve price increases that commenced in January 2018 are mostly now implemented, though we do continue to see price-increase activity from some late followers.
- Market outlook remains steady. Construction spending (February report): Residential up 0.1% over January and up +5.4% YoY. Commercial (building) construction was up 1.2% over January & up 5.6% YoY.
- The first round of U.S. announced import tariffs affecting import (Chinese) steel / stainless and aluminum products already has resulted in price increases on some import fasteners and raw materials. We are monitoring the situation at this point.
A subsequent Section 301 Notice of Determination press release proposes to expand import duties to a much wider list of products, including finished valves.
