Wilson, North Carolina-based Ihrie Supply founder and chairman Edward Calvert Ihrie died Dec. 30 at the age of 86.

Ihrie, a child of the depression who grew up on a small dairy farm, began a career in the plumbing-supply business and acquired two stores in 1972. The business expanded to more than 10 locations over the years and now has eight branches in eastern North Carolina.

Ihrie is survived by his wife of 39 years, Jerri Walston Ihrie, six daughters, 13 grandchildren, several great-grandchildren, his sister and brother.

Ihrie’s family and friends noted he will be remembered not only as a knowledgeable and dedicated businessman, but for his integrity, kindness and sense of humor. He was especially known for his unwavering generosity to those in need, family and friends added.
