Carrier Corp. announced that it will close its McMinnville, Tenn., manufacturing facility, which manufactures commercial air conditioning and ventilation product lines, by the second half of 2005. Under this plan, production will be moved to its existing plants in Tyler, Texas; Charlotte, N.C.; and Monterrey, Mexico and will affect 1,300 jobs.
Todd Bluedorn, president, Carrier North America Commercial, said in a statement that the move is intended to leverage its manufacturing scale and to simplify its business model. “Consistent with this strategy, we are moving assembly of the McMinnville product lines into other Carrier factories producing common product platforms,” he said.
