American Standard Cos. announced an operational consolidation and streamlining action that will result in the reduction of 1,200 positions on a global basis during 2001. The reductions will be made in the company's three businesses: Trane central air conditioning systems and service; American Standard and Ideal Standard plumbing products; and WABCO electronic braking and control systems for heavy-duty trucks and buses. Also, one manufacturing plant will be closed.
"These changes will eliminate job duplications and bring our operations closer to customers, enhancing our efficiency and competitive position across all business lines," said Frederic Poses, American Standard's chairman/CEO. "We expect these actions will generate savings of more than $40 million annually on an ongoing basis."
