Zachary Spengler

AGE: 34

COMPANY: Reading Foundry and Supply CO.

TITLE: VP of purchasing

How long have you been in the PHCP-PVF industry?

Just turned 17 years

What drew you into the industry?

My family. My grandfather was an integral member of the company, which piqued my interest. After graduating from high school, I didn’t really have a clear idea what I wanted to do. I decided to ask my uncle for a job and the rest is history.

What is the most rewarding aspect of working in the industry?

The most rewarding part of working in this industry is helping customers with their needs and wants as every customer is different. I also enjoy working with all our vendors/reps, learning about new products and how they help our industry.

What motivates you every day?

My family, first and foremost, but also, I strive to keep the legacy that my family built going. I want Reading Foundry to be successful not only for my family but for each employee’s family. I also hope and want to keep the business thriving in such a way that maybe one day my son or daughter can come into the business.

What is one thing you wish more people knew/understood about the PHCP-PVF industry?

I wish more people understood how crucial the PHCP-PVF industry is for society. People tend to forget our industry until something goes wrong, or they see a beautiful kitchen or bath on TV or in a magazine. It would be my wish that people knew how integral a piece we are, even in the simplest of projects.

What has been your proudest moment in your career so far?

The proudest moment of my career so far is helping to start our Red Hill branch from the bottom up. Seeing it go from nothing to one of our more successful branches in 6 years is something I am proud to say I was a part of.

What is one thing most people don’t know about you?

Most people at surprised to hear that I did not go to college. I started working at Reading Foundry during some of the summer months in high school and then returned full-time upon graduation. With the help of those around me, I have learned everything on the job which has helped define who I am today.
