The battle for luxury bathroom and kitchen spaces still rages

Becoming luxury avengers

Try to picture this: Batman without the Joker? Snooze-fest. Iron Man without Thanos? Yawn city. In the blockbuster world of superhero flicks, it's the villainous villain who brings the sizzle. We're talking brilliant über-evil, resource-rich maniacs who can make our caped crusaders sweat. No villain? No story. Just a bunch of muscular folks in tight spandex doing yoga.

Now, zip into the wild frontier of decorative plumbing showrooms. (Stay with me, it's about to get dicey.) Our villains? They're not cackling in underground lairs. They're our resource-rich clients with a severe case of bathroom blindness. These poor souls can't see the difference between a sad, lonely toilet and a throne fit for their exalted position.

Our mission, should we choose to accept it? Help them redirect their supervillain vanilla vision to letting professionals create their worthy spaces. We're not just selling toilets and taps, folks. We're peddling dreams, fighting the good fight against mundane bathrooms everywhere. It's time to flush away those pedestrian perspectives and unleash a tsunami of bathroom brilliance. Are you ready to be a Bathroom Avenger?

The challenge: Still educating the elite in 2024

For years, we've been talking, teaching, and writing about helping wealthy individuals, space-oriented architects, builders, plumbers, and yes, even inn talented designers understand that bathrooms and kitchens should be beautiful spaces. Spaces that reward their owners, wow their guests, and are featured in fabulous design magazines and refined coffee table books. The key is to show them.

Our showrooms present captivating faucets, toilets, and bathtubs, punctuated with eye-catching vignettes. But space limitations mean we can only tell so many stories. How do we educate clients that they can - and should - aim higher?

Innovative solutions and overcoming objections

The first thought that comes to mind is simple: share with them all the wonderful images available on the Internet. Slap a pair of VR goggles on them, let them shower in a space adorned by magnificent tiles, framed by crystal-clear glass, with a shower head designed to make them disappear under a waterfall.

But then comes the comment: "That's too much. Who's gonna do that here? Sure, the wealthy in Los Angeles, New York, and Miami can do just about anything in their homes, but it's not for me."

This is when you have to bring out images from your local market. Elegant bathrooms and kitchens that you've created working with local designers. They need to see it happening in their market and immediate area, where their friends might have similar spaces, to motivate them to match or stretch beyond.

Bringing luxury home: A strategy for local high-end bathroom & kitchen design

People understand and admire the beauty of a Ferrari, even if they might never own one. The same principle applies to luxury bathrooms. We've established what can be done in high-end design, but now we need to bring it home—literally.

Creating a local luxury portfolio

The key is to work with your showroom team, local designers and builders to create a portfolio that showcases what's actually being built in your market. By exposing clients to the captivating spaces, the best designers and creative builders are creating in their own backyard, we transform luxury from a distant dream to an achievable reality.

Once your clients understand that this level of sophistication is part of their town, they're more likely to step in the direction of "doing it best." Just as they might appreciate a Ferrari while choosing a luxury car that fits their lifestyle, clients can be inspired by uniquely designed bathrooms and kitchens while selecting a level of luxury that suits their dreams and budget.

Our showrooms present captivating faucets, toilets and bathtubs, punctuated with eye-catching vignettes. But space limitations mean we can only tell so many stories. How do we educate clients that they can - and should - aim higher?

A win-win for all parties

This strategy creates a tremendous win-win opportunity for everyone involved:

  1. Your showroom gains a unique advantage. Since plumbing specifications are needed in the earliest stages of building or major remodeling, you position yourself as the go-to hub for high-end bathroom design.
  2. For clients who are hesitant about hiring a designer, your showroom becomes a gallery of local talent. You're not just selling products; you're showcasing the possibilities when those products are artfully combined by skilled professionals.
  3. Designers will find it easier to present and win creating client focused, unique bathrooms and kitchens, helping to establish their credentials in the local market and potentially beyond.
  4. Builders will be able to deliver more value to their market by adding over-the-top bathrooms and kitchen to their repertoire.

Seizing the opportunity

By leveraging these local partnerships and showcasing achievable luxury, we can elevate the entire market's perception of what a bathroom and kitchens can be. It's not about pushing clients towards extravagance they're uncomfortable with; it's about opening their eyes to the potential of their space.

Remember, every Ferrari started as a dream in someone's garage in Maranello. Similarly, every luxury bathroom begins with a vision in your showroom. By bringing that vision down to earth and rooting it in local talent and examples, we make it tangible, desirable, and above all, achievable.

Let's transform bathrooms and kitchens from nice places to ones that highlight the elegant design of this home.

Getting started

  • Learn from your team
    •  Where are the local high-end projects
    •  Who are the luxury designers, builder and architects
    •  Establish relationships with those creating luxury spaces in your area.
  • Create a Local Luxury Portfolio
    •  Task your team to collect images and details of high-end bathroom and kitchens created locally
    •  Organize these into a presentable format (digital on-line portfolio, printed lookbook, etc.)
  • Task local designers to create showroom vignettes
    •  Create vignette spaces
      •  These may be large whole space displays, table tops and window boxes.
    •  Ensure these displays use products that you want to highlight.
  • Implement Virtual Reality (VR) Experiences
    •  Invest in VR technology to allow clients to "walk through" luxury bathrooms and “work in” grand kitchens
  • Host Educational Events
    •  Organize workshops, seminars or webinars featuring local designers and builders’ over-the-top work.
      •  These may a short as a room focused 10, 15 minute chat.
    •  Focus on educating clients about the possibilities in luxury bathroom design.
