Meet the newest MDM graduate

Jose Herrera has been in the plumbing trade for 12 years and has been with with Hirsch Pipe and Supply for the past four years. As the first, and youngest graduate of the HPS Manager Trainee Program, he was quickly promoted to branch manager in 2016. Leadership at Hirsch asked Jose to open a new branch in Chula Vista, California. Jose had helped open a branch in the past, but wanted to make the transition easier for his staff and customers. Jose applied previous challenges and his MDM education to build a strategy, get staff committed and execute the opening. His strategy included establishing strength-based duties, trust through delegation and cross-training to ensure flexibility of his small staff. Jose said “Our crew is far more confident in their positions and carry themselves with pride in their work. They hold each other accountable to maintain a higher standard of customer service than expected. ”

Success has been quicker than anticipated. The new branch saw increased sales, decreased staff overtime, higher customer satisfaction rate, increased employee morale, and the entire team scored above company metric expectations. These successes are thanks to the knowledgeable staff at Hirsch, and to Jose directing his attention to customers. “I am able to focus most of my time on establishing our customer base, scouting new regions for potential clients, forecasting and planning for the months ahead. Understanding how to delegate properly has not only established confidence in our team and boosted morale, but also has freed me to help establish Hirsch Pipe as a strong competitor in the San Diego region.”
