Reeves Journal’s Sam Abdulaziz Dies

Abdulaziz was also the legal adviser for the PHCC Los Angeles for more than 30 years.

Longtime Reeves Journal “Legal Corner” columnist Samuel K. Abdulaziz died Oct. 11, 2013. In addition to “Legal Corner, Abdulaziz was the legal adviser for the PHCC Los Angeles for more than 30 years.

Abdulaziz litigated and arbitrated numerous construction cases and has served as an arbitrator within an arbitration panel, as well as being the sole arbitrator on complex construction cases. He also served as a judge pro tem in the court as well as a mediator for the appellate court. On the local and statewide front, he served as legal counsel for several construction related trade associations. Sam often represented contractors in disciplinary cases where the License Board was seeking to discipline a contractor. Numerous attorneys referred such cases to him. Sandy Soleta, the executive director of PHCC-GLAA, said Abdulaziz would be missed: “He was one of the good ones,” she said.

Known as one of the nation’s leading authorities on construction law and a well-known contractors’ advocate, Abdulaziz is survived by his wife Joyce, two children and five grandchildren.

Services were scheduled for Oct. 14 at Mount Sinai Beverly Hills in Los Angeles. In lieu of flowers the family requested donations in Sam Abdulaziz’ name to the Alzheimer’s Association.
