More than 75 plumbing contractors from the Houston area competed in the annual Houston Plumbers Fishing Tournament held in May on Lake Sam Rayburn. This is an invitation-only tournament that has been held every spring for the past 45 years. Manufacturers representatives and wholesalers from the Texas market served on the judging committee.

Participants caught more than 600 pounds of crappie, with the largest one being 2.4 pounds, according to Ty Tipton, president of Houston-based manufacturers rep firm Tipton Co.

The winning team from Cy Tech Services received a 7-foot tall trophy. A sportsmanship award was given in the name of the late Joe Crawford, former owner of McFadden and Associates Plumbing Co. in Houston, who passed away unexpectedly late last year.

In 2011, the tournament will return on May 1 to the Jackson Hill Marina on Lake Sam Rayburn.
