McJunkin Red Man Corp.(MRC) recently acquired The South Texas Supply Co. as part of a strategic focus to increase its presence and commitment to customers in the active shale plays across North America. Details of the transaction were not disclosed.

To support oil and gas exploration and production, as well as the pipeline and transmission infrastructure, MRC will be expanding operations and inventory in these active shales both organically and through acquisition, such as South Texas Supply within the Eagle Ford Shale. South Texas Supply operates two branch locations in Texas, located in Carrizo Springs and Dilley, and has supplied oilfield products to the region since 1996. Mark Hassell, one of the selling shareholders, will continue to manage the two locations. These two new branches enhance MRC’s coverage in South Texas, as the company plans to expand in the region with a regional hub and major pipe yard.

In other news, MRC recently opened a new facility in Horseheads, NY, supporting the northern activity in the Marcellus Shale and will soon be opening branches in Shreveport, LA, and in Center, TX, supporting the Haynesville Shale.
