The resolution is meant to recognize the 125th anniversary of the Plumbing-Heating-Cooling Contractors-National Association and the role the plumbing industry plays in protecting the health and safety of the nation.  “This is a significant acknowledgment of our industry’s contributions to society,” said PHCC President Jim Finley (C.N. Finley, New Orleans, LA). “We believe this gives National Plumbing Industry Week the recognition it deserves.” 

The resolution was introduced by Reps. Nydia Velazquez (D-NY), chairwoman of the House Small Business Committee, and Steve Chabot (R-Ohio), ranking member on the committee. They wanted to recognize the commitment of the plumbing industry, which is comprised of mostly small businesses.

PHCC will kick off National Plumbing Industry with a May 1 rally on Capitol Hill.  The rally will showcase the importance the plumbing industry plays in water conservation. Ben Grumbles, Environmental Protection Agency assistant administrator, will join the rally on behalf of WaterSense, EPA’s water efficiency program. 

Members of Congress have been invited to attend. Rep. Lynn Westmoreland (R-GA) is expected to speak of his state’s experiences with a severe drought earlier this year. Several leaders in the industry from groups, such as the International Association of Plumbing and Mechanical Officials and the American Supply Association, also will attend.
