SG Supply Company set down its roots in 1959 and has grown steadily to its current size and influence in the Chicago marketplace. The company's sole location sits on 4 acres, featuring a 53,000 square foot facility that houses an impressive inventory of products designed to serve SG's customers (75% commercial, 25% residential). Their annual sales have recently topped $55 million.
Almost every truck in SG's fleet of 23 is fitted with a boom crane, and pallets and pipe bundles are pre-strapped to enable quick offloading on the job site. SG operates two shifts in the warehouse, beginning at 4:00am and ending at 1:00am, after all the trucks have been loaded with the next day's deliveries and parked inside the warehouse for the rest of the night.
It's an impressive operation; a very clean and orderly warehouse with no paper in sight. All shipments are received, put away, picked and packed using a radio frequency bar code reading system. Drivers all have NexTel phones, linked to their customers' frequencies to stay in close contact, and carry hand-held devices to record delivery info and signatures. The company offers daily deliveries over an area in Northeast Illinois and Northwest Indiana of about 4,400 square miles.
In addition to playing a big role within the company's management, well beyond the reaches of traditional purchasing responsibilities, Stan also finds time to participate in association volunteer roles. He is currently on the ASA Board of Directors and is a Trustee with the ASA Education Foundation. Stan also is active within the Midwest Distributors Association and serves on that Board as well.
Thanks for the visit, Stan, and thanks to SG Supply Company for their continued involvement in ASA.
