>> Institute for Supply Management: Economic activity in the manufacturing sector declined for the 17th consecutive month in December, but at a slower rate, according to the ISM, formerly the National Association of Purchasing Management. Norbert Ore, chair of the ISM manufacturing business survey committee, cited the latest monthly study as "giving some hope that recovery may come faster than is generally found in a major downturn."
