Duravit unveils Balcoon-Scapes by Patricia Urquiola for Milan Design Week
The installation debuts at Gran Meliá Palazzo Cordusio on April 21st and will be open to the public until April 24th.

Duravit and Patricia Urquiola’s collaboration continues into 2026, with an approach that broadens the brand’s scope beyond traditional contexts. Building on last year’s Milan Design Week installation, Duravit and Patricia Urquiola showcase how premium bathroom design extends beyond function and into culture, space and experience.
After introducing the Balcoon product series in 2025, the collaboration now evolves into a sculptural expression of the brand’s “Design Meets Excellence” philosophy, uniting architectural clarity, craftsmanship and purposeful design.
"Crafted by Patricia Urquiola exclusively for Duravit, Balcoon-Scapes is an immersive installation that elevates Balcoon’s design language and aesthetic principles into the realm of sculpture. The reinterpretation draws on the collection's characteristic round and square volumes, layered surfaces and warm clay tones; rearranging its pieces into a sculptural field. Washbasins, bowls and floor-standing toilets are freed from their usual orientation and reinterpreted as totem-like forms, while two custom toilets crafted in fur and concrete anchored in the space introduce an unexpected contrast of material and form."
According to the company, the installation is created to encourage contemplation and foster a dialogue between object, space and viewer. To achieve this, Urquiola designed two bespoke benches that echo the sculptural language of the limited-edition stool — a piece derived from the same vocabulary and produced in Duravit’s Black Forest factory. Limited to 26 numbered pieces, the stool translates Duravit’s craftsmanship into a "rare collectible object."
Hosted at Gran Meliá Palazzo Cordusio, an architectural landmark featuring Duravit products as part of its interior design, the installation unfolds within a setting that amplifies its sculptural presence.
The installation will be showcased at an evening cocktail on April 21st to friends of the brand, partners and media, and open to the public until Friday, April 24th.
“I’m happy to continue my collaboration with Duravit, this time with Balcoon-Scapes. The installation unfolds as a field of totems, where elements from the collection are reinterpreted as sculptural presences, shifting from product to spatial composition” says Patricia Urquiola.
"Patricia embodies many of Duravit’s values: quiet excellence, architectural clarity and a deep respect for materiality. Our ongoing partnership translates our 'Design Meets Excellence' philosophy into immersive experiences.” adds Lüder Fromm, CMO of Duravit. “We are proud to be present once again across Milan Design Week, showcasing our strong ambition to create bathrooms that are not only functional, but atmospheric, emotional and timeless."
Alongside the Balcoon-Scapes exhibition, Duravit will open its Milan showroom throughout the week, where visitors will find a bathroom experience with Balcoon’s product updates, and past milestone collaborations from Philippe Starck's ME by Starck Hero Edition, Collection One Design by Studio F. A. Porsche to washing area additions like Ocavo and Technological Highlights such as SensoWash shower toilets. Other city activity includes a branded Duravit tram and shuttle bus, which will circulate through Milan connecting the two stops.
The Balcoon-Scapes exhibition is avaliable at Gran Meliá Palazzo Cordusio, from Tuesday, 21st April 10am to Friday, 24th April at 7pm.
