Brandon Ober

AGE: 34

COMPANY: APR Supply

TITLE: Outside sales

How long have you been in the PHCP-PVF industry?

I’ve been in the PHCP-PVF industry since 2014, but my connection to it started much earlier. My grandfather founded one of the largest refrigeration companies in the Northeast, and growing up around that environment planted the seeds for understanding just how important this industry is to people, businesses, and communities.

What drew you into the industry?

I grew up spending 10 years helping my father complete a frame-up restoration of a 1970 Mustang. That experience gave me a deep passion for cars and made me realize one of my strengths was being mechanically inclined. I’ve always been hands-on, which fueled my passion for understanding how things work. My lifelong friend and neighbor, who went to school for HVAC, knew all about my car projects and told me about an opening at APR Supply. He encouraged me that I would be great at HVAC and plumbing systems based on my mechanical ability.

What is the most rewarding aspect of working in the industry?

For me, it’s about helping people succeed. I’ve never approached my role as just “selling.” The most rewarding part is working alongside contractors to solve problems, improve their businesses, and ultimately improve their lives. Whether it’s helping them design a system, troubleshoot a technical challenge, increase profitability, or build a stronger company culture, seeing their success—and knowing I played a role in it—is what drives me.

What motivates you every day?

I’m motivated by helping people succeed. Whether it’s a contractor landing a big job, improving their profitability, or feeling more confident in the systems they install, knowing I had a hand in their success drives me. Every time I see a customer win, or an APR employee grow and get promoted, it reminds me why I do what I do. We only have room for internal employee growth if the business as a whole grows—and that growth is my direct responsibility.

What is one thing you wish more people knew/understood about the PHCP-PVF industry?

Many people coming out of high school or college are looking for what they think of as a “glamorous” job, and from the outside, our industry doesn’t seem to fit that description. But the truth is, it really can be. Whether you’re a technician, owner-operator, manufacturer’s rep, or wholesale distributor, there are rewarding career paths with incredible opportunities for growth. It’s a field where hard work, skill, and dedication pay off, and where you can build a career, you can be proud of.

What has been your proudest moment in your career so far?

I pride myself on being the best I can possibly be. When I entered sales, I wasn’t given a book of business, but I grew my own book from zero to become APR Supply’s top-grossing salesperson. In the two years since our company began recognizing top performers, I’ve been honored to win “HVAC Salesperson of the Year” both times.

What is one thing most people don’t know about you?

Most people don’t know that I’m a foodie who loves to cook—especially experimenting with new recipes and techniques. For me, it’s a creative outlet that’s just as satisfying as building something with my hands.
