Melvin “Mel” Weiner, the founder ofBest Plumbing Supply, died June 5 at his home in South Carolina. He was 85 years old. After proudly serving in the United States Navy on the USS Pargo during World War II, Weiner founded Best Plumbing Supply with his wifeAdelein Mohegan Lake, NY, in 1960. They saw the plumbing supply business from a unique merchandising viewpoint and wanted to present bath and kitchen products direct to the end user. In addition to traditional supplies, they gave their customers the opportunity to see products in a showroom; a concept that was unheard of in the industry.

Weiner was an innovator in the plumbing showroom industry, and an inspiration to all. He leaves behind an incredible legacy in Best Plumbing Supply, which just celebrated its 50th anniversary. One of the highlights of his life was working with his sons Jonas and Jess, who carry on this legacy along with his eldest granddaughter, Kymberly.
