Stock Building Supply (Raleigh, NC) appointed Joe Appelmann, senior vice president of operations, as company president, effective August 1. Appelmann will succeed Fenton Hord, 60, who is retiring due to health reasons. Woleseley-owned Stock Building Supply provides building materials and construction services to professional contractors in the U.S. Hord has led the company for the last 20 years. Under his guidance it grew from seven North Carolina stores with sales of $113 million, to 310 locations in 34 states with a record $5.3 billion in sales in 2006. Appelmann joined Stock in 1988 and has held senior management positions in finance, manufacturing and logistics.
