Johnstone Supply (Portland, Ore.) hosted a Brickyard 400 weekend at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway in Indianapolis in August during the annual NASCAR NEXTEL Cup Series. More than 30 dealers from Illinois, Indiana and Kentucky attended. A Coleman® Mobile Unit featuring its Echelon™ series of residential heating and cooling products was on display as part of its traveling tour across the country. In other news, Johnstone announced that during the past 12 months it has added 18 store locations, including three independent store owners who joined the national cooperative as members. In a statement, President Gary Daniels said a variety of factors are contributing to the store growth and strong sales, but all are directly related to the company's business setup as a cooperative made up of independent owners. “The chain stores often have a cookie-cutter, one-store-fits-all approach when they establish a new location,” he said. “Johnstone stores are usually already a part of the local community and contractors already know and trust them.”The independent store owners can use Johnstone's pricing and supply advantages, as well as marketing and advertising support, operational tools and training resources.
