Five of the Air-Conditioning and Refrigeration Institute's (ARI) national standards have been approved and recognized by the Board of Standards Review for the American National Standards Institute (ANSI).

ARI is also working with the Canadian Standards Association to revise “Packaged Terminal Air Conditioners and Heat Pumps,” ARI standard 310/380-2004 and CSA standard C744-04. The revised standard establishes a single set of requirements for the testing and rating of cooling and heating capacities and energy efficiency ratios for factory-assembled packaged terminal air-conditioners and packaged terminal heat pumps used in residential, commercial and industrial systems. This joint standard supersedes the previous edition published in 1993 based on the requirements of ARI standard 310-90, “Packaged Terminal Air-Conditioners,” and ARI standard 380-90, “Packaged Terminal Heat Pumps.”
