Goodrich Technology Corp. received a Notice of Allowance from the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office for a patent application covering its chrome coating process. A patent may be issued soon.

"The PermaStar process uses a combination of powder coating and physical vapor deposition to achieve a true chrome-like appearance while significantly reducing costs and the high proportion of 'rejects' associated with traditional chrome plating," said Gary Goodrich, president/CEO of Goodrich Technology, in a statement.

Market studies show that demand for chrome products is sky rocketing, he said. PermaStar chrome substitute is durable and anticorrosive. The process uses no hazardous chemicals and no hazardous byproducts are created, he said.
