The International Code Council honored the following individuals and groups for furthering the cause of building safety, fire prevention, safe construction and code enforcement during its annual conference:
Rick Vognild, retired director of technical services for Southern Building Code Congress International, received the Bobby J. Fowler Award for his contributions to the development of the International Codes.
Donald “Mickey” Arp of Chattanooga, TN, received the Code Official of the Year Award for his work to further the cause of building safety.
Retired Fire Marshal Robert Davidson of South Brunswick, NJ, received the ICC Fire Service Award.
Jill Gray, permit technical for Farmers Branch, TX, was presented with a Community Service Award for her commitment to local charities.
Members of the Washington Association of Building Officials also received a Community Service Award for their work in coordinating with the state of Washington to provide assistance to Gulf Coast communities following Hurricane Katrina.
Shirley Muns, code specialist, Energy Systems Laboratory, Texas Engineering Experiment Station, Texas A&M University, received the ICC Affiliate Award for her support of code development and building safety.
California Building Officials was named the ICC Chapter of the Year for working in partnership with the California Office of Emergency Services to activate CALBO Call-Out, a mutual aid program to coordinate disaster response volunteers.
Four merit awards were presented to the following ICC chapters: Association of Minnesota Building Officials, Heart of America Chapter, Idaho Association of Building Officials and North Texas Chapter.
