NSF International recently transferred facilitation of NSF Standard 444: Minimizing Risk of Disease and Injury Associated with Building Water Systems to ASHRAE to complete the standard development process and publish it as ASHRAE Standard 514.

The committee will use NSF 444: Prevention of Injury and Disease Associated with Building Water Systems as the base document and will coordinate with ASHRAE SSPC 188: Legionellosis: Risk Management for Building Water Systems to prevent conflict or duplication between the two standards. Proposed Standard 514 will address building water quality, the importance of managing safe, quality building water systems, and prevention strategies.

ASPE has been participating in the development of both SSPC 188 and NSF 444 as a voting member and will continue to do so with the development of ASHRAE Standard 514. ASHRAE and NSF have determined that current NSF 444 members will roll over to the new 514 committee, and a call for new members for Standard 514 was announced on April 3 with a 30-day deadline for new member applications.

Questions regarding ASPE's participation with any of the previously mentioned standards should be directed to Executive Director and CEO Billy Smith or Senior Director of Technical & Regulatory Affairs Ramiro Mata.
