Expansion Continues For Some Wholesalers

April 8, 2008
Wholesalers around the country have announced expansions.

Newport News, VA-based Ferguson opened a 35,000-sq.-ft. facility in Indianapolis March 3 that features an 8-acre pipe yard and a large inventory of HDPE pipe and fittings, as well as fabrication capabilities and fusion machine rentals and repair. Tim Brizzolara serves as branch manager.

Also, Ferguson opened a 4,500-sq.-ft. showroom attached to its current location in Cranberry Township, PA, March 10. The showroom offers plumbing, appliances and lighting. Jim Battista is showroom manager.

Noland Co., also based in Newport News, VA, and now owned by Dayton, OH-based WinWholesale, opened a 3,500-sq.-ft. remodeled Bath & Idea Center at its branch in Charleston, SC. In addition to working displays, it has vignettes painted in Charleston’s historic colors that can be rearranged.

WinWholesale also opened two Winair companies in Texas: Gainesville Winair Co., with Bret Moore as president, and Midland Winair Co., with Jim Friedrichs as president. Gainesville’s market area also covers part of southern Oklahoma while Midland’s market extends into southeastern New Mexico.

Family-owned wholesaler Wm. F. Meyer, based in Aurora, IL, opened an “Aquae Sulis” showroom in Chicago. The 9,300-sq.-ft. facility houses more than 500 products, including working displays and lifestyle suites for the kitchen and bath. Tom Kieso is president of Aquae Sulis.

Two other wholesalers have expanded via acquisitions. Westwater Supply, Columbus, OH, purchased the inventory assets of Probst Supply Co. in Marion, OH. Dave Everson, who spent 30 years at Probst, has been named branch manager of the facility formerly operated as Probst, which will remain in place. Lisa Westwater, CEO, noted that her late husband, Marc Westwater, had been interested in acquiring the company and was friends with its owner. Westwater also has facilities in Springfield and Zanesville, OH.

Schmidt’s Wholesale, Monticello, NY, purchased Smith Supply in Newburgh, NY, and reopened it as its third location in February. A grand opening celebration is planned for late spring. “Our continued growth into this market and during these difficult industrial times is a reflection of a well-executed growth plan,” said Gary Schmidt, president.
