The total volume of imports to the U.S. started to fall off in November of 2017 and fell to below 100 million KGs in mid-2018 before starting to recover in both weight and number of shipments. The largest supplier has been China, with Thailand and India distant second and third. Imports from China have been slowed by U.S. trade negotiations and the fact that domestic preference has remained strong. Demand is still steady at around 6.5%, and there remains plenty of domestic capacity should imports from China erode further.
