ASA was the winner of the Storehouse of World Vision’s Partner of the Year honor during the 14th Annual Crystal Vision Awards Breakfast at KBIS. “ASA is proud to receive the Storehouse’s ‘Partner of the Year’ honor,” ASA Executive Vice President Mike Adelizzi said.
The Omni and Luxury Products Group buying groups had good news to report at their recent spring meetings held at the Loews Royal Pacific Resort in Orlando, Fla. Omni President Bob Hoff told the more than 1,000 attendees that group sales were up 10% over 2012 levels and total sales to vendor partners had again moved over the much-sought-after $1 billion barrier.
Supply House Times recently interviewed Forte President Doug Hermance at the decorative plumbing and hardware buying group’s 2014 conference at Trump National Doral outside Miami. Hermance is the president of Houston-based Westheimer Plumbing & Hardware, which features two showroom locations (Houston and The Woodlands) and a warehouse operations center.

Since I am now officially old, I get to pontificate on things that I have come to believe are always true in the hydronic-heating business, probably true in the rest of the heating business and certainly true when it comes to wet heat.
In my report on the recent winter PVF Roundtable meeting in Houston, Supply House Times columnist and ASA Industry Analyst Morrie Beschloss used the signature sign-on line from World War II-era radio commentator Gabriel Heatter to describe the outlook for the industrial PVF industry.
This year was billed as the largest AHR Expo in the Northeast to date. The impressive turnout to the Javits Center occurred despite the record cold and snow that brought New York City to a virtual stop on the second day of the show.
Although hydraulic fracturing (fracking) has engendered the possibility of shale-produced oil and natural gas, vaulting the United States into the world’s No. 1 spot in fossil-fuel production (oil, coal, natural gas), prestigious financial weekly Barron’s now estimates up to $1 trillion in capital-goods spending will be generated to make this happen by 2025.
As I write this letter, our industry has already entered into the busy buying group season. Next will be the summer months and soon after NetworkASA 2014, ASA’s annual convention, will be upon us.

Mid-City Supply’s annual Holiday Hog Roast at each of its branches collected toys for the Toys for Tots organization and personal-care items (shampoo, toothpaste, toilet paper, etc.) for the Salvation Army. Customers and vendors also were treated to lunch.
Awards will be presented Sept. 9-11 at NetworkASA 2014 at the Bellagio in Las Vegas.
