High Efficiency Hydronic Circulators: A Quantum Leap in Performance

9/6/12 2:00 pm to 9/6/13 2:00 pm EDT
Contact: Jacqlyn Ucinski

This seminar will explore what I consider to be one of the biggest advances in hydronics technology over the last two decades: ECM-based circulators. We will compare these new circulators to standard circulator from the standpoint of technical performance, operating characteristics, and life cycle operating cost. We’ll discuss the optimal application of ECM circulators within residential and light commercial systems, and identify some novel applications for which they are ideally suited. The webinar will conclude with rationale for why the future of small hydronic circulators will be based on ECM technology.

Webinar topics:

  • What is an ECM motor, and how does it operate
  • Energy savings associated with ECM versus PSC motors
  • Proportional differential pressure control
  • Using an AUTO circulator with electric zone valves
  • Using an AUTO circulator with wireless thermostatic radiator valves
  • Applications for VARIO circulators
    multi-circulator zoning
low flow / low head situations
  • Example of life cycle cost savings using AUTO circulator
  • Why the future of small circulators is ECM-based

What you will learn from this webinar:

  1. Differences between standard circulators and ECM-based circulators
  2. Different operating modes of ECM circulators, and where they are best applied
  3. The operating cost savings associated with using ECM-based circulators
  4. How to do circulator-based zoning on a fraction of the energy required by standard sone circulators.
  5. Why the future of all small circulators is based on ECM technology
