The
Hydraulic Institute, in collaboration with the Fluid Sealing Association,
announced the schedule of the 2012 Mechanical Seals Webinar Series, beginning
March 29. A free supplemental webinar on sealing systems energy efficiency will
be held on March 15.
Participants
will be led by and have access to industry-leading experts in a noncommercial
educational forum. HI technical webinar participants can receive up to
four professional development hour credits after completion of each live
webinar.
The
schedule is as follows:
March
29, 1 p.m.-2 p.m. EDT - Section 1: Mechanical Seals - Types and Operating
Principles
Section
1 explains how a mechanical seal works and gives an overview of the most common
seal types. The objectives are to give the student a good understanding of
how leakage, friction and wear of the materials interact and why many different
seal types are used in pumps, agitators and compressors. Presenter: Eric
Vanhie, EagleBurgmann.
April
12, 1 p.m.-2 p.m. EDT - Section 2: Mechanical Seals Construction and
Design
Section 2 will cover different design features used in common
seals. This section will explain the strengths and weaknesses of various
design options and impact of design features on seal performance. Presenter:
Mike Huebner, Flowserve.
April
26, 1 p.m.-2 p.m. EDT - Section 3: Mechanical Seals - Installation,
Connections - Commissioning
Section 3 will cover mechanical seals used in rotary equipment, basic
preparation and standards as well as support-system piping plans promoting
longer seal life and more. Presenter: Eric Boyce,
John Crane.
May
11, 1 p.m.-2 p.m. EDT - Section 4: Mechanical Seals - Seal Environment and
Failure Analysis
Section 4 covers how to improve material selection, installation and
operating procedures, environmental controls, seal design and much more. Presenter:
