VT Dimensions hosted an exclusive event during the 2014 Kitchen and Bath International Show featuring acclaimed international designer and co-host of HGTV’s Love It or List It, Hilary Farr.

The highlight of the event was a moderated discussion with Farr on ‘How to get the most out of your kitchen remodeling dollars.’ The questions were submitted by the kitchen and bath dealers, interior designers and builders who attended the event.

During the discussion Farr touched on key items such as the up-and-coming kitchen trends for 2014, provided advice on how to select the right products to stretch the remodeling budget and how to manage customers’ expectations. One topic she spoke specifically about was countertop selection in kitchen remodels. A few of the questions addressed are below:

How important is the countertop edge detail in the overall kitchen design?

Very important. The selection of edges can define the design aesthetic you want and creates interest to the countertop. The edge details that are available for these laminate countertops give great design options and they are beautiful, allowing you to put that finishing touch on your kitchen design. The pencil edge is a great option for creating the stone look in any kitchen design.

How do you see the role of laminate countertops in the kitchens of the future?

Laminate countertops are getting better and more premium than they have ever been. They truly are beautiful and are a great option when budget is a factor. They are lower maintenance too, all of which makes this a great alternative to stone.

How important is overall kitchen design?

It’s all about form and function. For example, designing to accommodate an oversized appliance, especially in a small kitchen, is very difficult. First, assess the whole area and then select the right products to provide optimal storage and workspace.

The event also introduced VT Dimensions’ Capture Collection, a line of five laminate colors that take the look of stone and combine it with the company’s edge profiles.
