Apprentice Contest Names Five Winners

TheUnited Association of Journeyman and Apprentices of the Plumbing and Pipe Fitting Industry of the United States and Canadahosted its six-day annual conference in August in Ann Arbor, Mich.

The big event included an apprenticeship competition with 30 contestants from six regions (five from the United States and one from Canada). The apprentices specialize in five different disciplines: HVAC, pipe fitting, plumbing, sprinkler fitting and welding.

The winners were: Welding – Dominic Villa of Holliston, Mass.; Sprinkler Fitting – Dave DeRaadt of Kitchener, Ontario; Pipe Fitting – Moses Yohalem of San Jose, Calif.; Service Technician – Kyle Kulovitz of Bristol, Wis.; Plumber – Ryan Gibson of Beavercreek, Ohio.

'Day With Dahl' Strengthens Relationships

Ontario-based and family-owned manufacturerDahlhas launched a series of “Day with Dahl” events to develop relationships with distributors and contractors.

The first event was June 1 in Las Vegas and Dahl plans to have 50 events across the United States championing the company’s innovative product offering to local partners.

“We are excited to host this series of ‘Day with Dahl’ events as a small way to thank our industry partners from coast to coast,” Dahl’s Regional Sales Manager Josh Jamieson said. “We know the key to our growth is building strong, lasting partnerships with our distributors and their contractor customers by delivering quality products on-time, every time, and these events are an excellent way for us to continue to forge those relationships.”

Axor opened its first North American design studio on Sept. 19 in New York City.

Axor Opens Manhattan Studio

Axor– Hansgrohe’s designer brand – opened its first North American design studio with a 3,000-sq.-ft. space on 9th Avenue in New York City’s Meatpacking District in Manhattan.

The studio opened to the public Sept. 19 and has showroom hours Monday through Friday 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. (private appointments available).

Named “Axor NYC,” the space showcases Axor’s entire line of products for the United States and will feature individual pieces of the Axor Starck Shower Collection, Axor Urquiola and Axor Citterio collections.

The space will also be a valuable resource for the design-savvy public and the industry. Designers, architects and consumers can come to the studio and work with a product specialist to create a specification for their project. In addition, the studio can be used to host events like educational seminars, interactive demonstrations and designer discussions.

Johnson Controls donates to Make-A-Wish Foundation

Johnson Controlspartnered with Milwaukee-area businesses to raise more than $210,000 for the 24th Annual Make-A-Wish Walk & Run. The event will grant 40 wishes to children with life-threatening medical conditions.

The event was Aug. 27 in Milwaukee’s Henry W. Maier Festival Park, and had a 5K walk and run, wheelchair race and short kids race. Johnson Controls and its Luxaire brand of heating and air condition equipment were co-presenting sponsors of the event, along with Badger Mutual Insurance.

Danze Rides For Denver's Children's Hospital

Danzesent 30 cyclists to the 22nd Annual Denver Children’s Hospital Courage Classic – a three-day, 200-mile bicycle tour through the Rocky Mountains. Team Danze raised more than $20,000 for The Children’s Hospital in Denver.

“The course was both physically and mentally challenging. It wound through 200 miles of incredibly beautiful Rocky Mountain ski resorts and towns,” Danze President and CEO Michael Werner said.

LA-CO gives away iPads, other prizes to distributors, plumbing contractors

Specialty plumbing and HVAC chemical makerLA-CO Industries Inc.gave away prizes to loyal distributors and plumbing contractors who use LA-CO products. Anyone who purchased LA-CO products from June 1 through Aug. 31 was entered into the contest.

Ray Perez Jr. of Clark Hardware LTD in Laredo, Texas, and Tim Fuller of 5 Star Plumbing in Dubuque, Iowa, were grand prize winners and were each awarded an iPad.

Distributors who won gift cards to Target were: Perez Jr., Steven Matthews of Noland Co. and Byron King of Lincoln Windustrial. Installer winners were Levi Calkins of B&V Mechanical, Adam Smith of F&S Plumbing and Christopher Schiro of Southwest Town Mechanical.
