Steel and aluminum shipments in the United States dipped for the second straight month. In September, there was a 10% decline according to the Metals Service Center Institute - following a 1% dip in August.

Three million tons of steel were shipped from U.S. service centers in September, representing a 9.5% decline from September 2011. Steel inventories are at 8.8 million tons at the end of September, a 3.1% increase from 2011, but a 2.1% decrease from August 2012.
