Rep firm G&S Principal Bill Godwin retires March 31.

G & S Sales, a manufacturers rep firm based in Salt Lake City, Utah, announced a change in leadership effective March 31, 2011. That is when Bill Godwin, a principal in the firm, will retire and Clay Smith and Dan Lowe will take charge as principals. The retirement/buyout of the other principal at G & S, John Schultz, is nearly completed.

The succession plan for the company was put in place more than eight years ago, Godwin said. The company’s 12 employees are prepared for the changes ahead, he added.

Godwin joined the rep firm April 1, 1990, after more than 13 years with IPS Corp. He is a former president of AIM/R and served as its 2009/2010 chairman. He was also a member of the 2010 board of directors of the American Supply Association.

He said he will remain involved in the industry until March 31 but after April 1 he plans to take a year off from actively pursuing any business venture. “After that time, and after nearly 34 years in this industry, I may end up back in it,” Godwin shared. However, he said he will also be looking at some totally different ventures.

“Thank you all for the great support you have given G & S Sales and me for all these years,” Godwin said, noting that “it has never really mattered what I was selling - it was always about the connection and relationships with what I truly believe are the greatest people in our industry.”
