CIPH Habitat for Humanity Home In Newfoundland Is Dedicated

TheCanadian Institute of Plumbing & Heating hosted a dedication ceremony in St. John’s, Newfoundland, at which CIPH Chairman of the Board Russ Morgan of  IPEX Inc. presented the house keys to the Alvarez family. Among the more than 100 attendees at the event were CIPH President & General Manager Ralph Suppa, the Newfoundland Region Board and members, Habitat for Humanity volunteers and members of the media. The family is expected to move into the hydronic-heated home in late November. Since 1994 CIPH members have donated $6.3 million in cash and products to Habitat for Humanity.

Wholesaler Reports Huge Growth In Annual Heating Show

Waterbury, CT-basedTorrington SupplyandLitco Supplyreported that attendance at its fourth annual Heating Show held in August was up more than 200% vs. last year. More than  350 heating contractors gathered in Plantsville, CT, for the event, which was intended to show appreciation to both customers and vendors and provide networking and educational opportunities.

Featured speakers included Matt Conant of A.O. Smith and Peter Butler of AKR Associates/Buderus.  Representatives for Noritz, Honeywell and Crown also made presentations. Dan Holohan spoke on “Classic Hydronics.” New and upgraded heating products were on display from 65 exhibitors, including anchor vendors A.O. Smith, Burnham, Honeywell, R.W. Beckett, and Weil McLain.

Famous Reports Increased Attendance At Annual Tri-State Expo

The27th annual Tri-State Expoheld in Cleveland, OH, Sept. 14-15, hosted by wholesaler Famous Enterprises, drew more customers than last year and raised funds for the Make-A-Wish Foundation via a raffle. HVAC, plumbing, industrial and building product contractors and industry professionals were invited to attend the event at no cost to meet with vendors, see product demonstrations, and obtain special pricing. Among the more than 400 manufacturers exhibiting were Aprilaire, Arzel, Armstrong Air, Bradford White, Frigidaire Appliance, Honeywell, Kohler, Luxaire, MasterBrand Cabinets, Moen, NIBCO, Slant Fin, Triangle Tube, Viega and White-Rodgers. The expo also included fee-based State of Ohio and NATE certified courses offered by Famous University to earn Continuing Education Credits and NATE certification and free special interest seminars.

Dahl Brothers Hosts Plumbing Contractors Advisory Committee

A select group of plumbing contractors was invited to the first Contractor Advisory Committee meeting hosted byDahl Brothers Canada Ltd., in August. Renamed Radiant Professionals Alliance Hosts Open House

REHAU Opens Academy In Canada

REHAUannounced the opening of its first permanent Academy training center in Canada, located in Burlington, Ontario.  A formal ribbon-cutting ceremony was held on Sept. 21, presided over by REHAU Ontario sales director James Clavel (pictured, center, at podium, with the REHAU Ontario regional staff) and REHAU Academy manager Lance MacNevin. REHAU Academy training classes will be held at the new facility, including seminars for hydronic radiant heating, snow and ice melting and geothermal piping systems. The inaugural training class, a Skill Builders Complete seminar, was attended by more than 25 construction industry professionals.  MacNevin, Ontario account manager Dale Hanscomb and other training professionals will serve as facilitators for the seminars.

Slant/Fin Kicks Off Heating Season With Product Expo

Slant/Fin Corp.held a high efficiency product Expo at its headquarters and manufacturing facility on Long Island in Greenvale, NY, in September. About 150 wholesalers and contractors witnessed live firing demonstrations of high efficiency oil and gas boilers. Slant/Fin’s new Lynx boiler line was displayed with the company’s other high-efficiency oil and gas boilers and baseboard. Attendees also met with OEM vendors, attended seminars and toured the manufacturing facility.

“Bumble Bee” Wins Taco's Name That Pump Contest

WhenTacounveiled its latest variable speed pump - in yellow and black - at the NAOHSM show in Providence in May, it also announced its “Name That Pump” contest. More than 2,800 submissions were collected in a ballot box at the show and during the 60-day online promotion. Mario-Luc Ranger, a control technician at The University of Central Florida and one of 50 people who submitted the name “Bumble Bee,” was declared the winner of a  yellow and black Smart Car in a random drawing. When he picked up the car, he was wearing a bumblebee costume.
