Midland Metal (Kansas City, MO) is celebrating 30 years in business. Bill Hodes and his son, Nick, founded the company in 1980, selling brass fittings to the plumbing market. Today Billy Hodes, the youngest son of Bill Hodes, is owner and president of the family-owned company that supplies fittings, nipples, valves, clamps and plumbing accessories to the oilfield, well water, plumbing and HVAC markets.

The company’s product line is represented by independent manufacturers reps across the United States, Canada, Mexico and the Caribbean, and is used in projects like the Bellagio hotel’s fountains in Las Vegas. In its first year, the company earned $60,000 in revenue. By 1999 when Billy Hodes joined the business, sales were up to $20 million.

In 2003, Billy Hodes joined the executive coaching and business leadership group, Vistage, which he said is one of the best investments he has made.

An unknown third cousin, Jim Hodes, with more than 25 years of operations experience, joined Midland in 2006 and has been key to positioning the company for growth.  The next phase of the company’s business plan is accelerating profitable growth, especially in the west and central regions of the United States.
