The American Supply Association is urging its members to contact their Congressmen in Washington, D.C., about the H.R. 1908 Bill, theWater Accountability Tax Efficiency Reinvestment Act of 2009- W.A.T.E.R. Act for short - that was introduced in the U.S. House of Representatives on April 2, 2009.

H.R. 1908 is patterned after the residential energy tax credit that was passed last year and has proven successful. The W.A.T.E.R. Act will provide tax credits to residential and commercial property owners who install quality products that conserve water. In its current form, the bill allows for a 30% tax credit up to $1,500 on water efficient products that carry the U.S. E.P.A.WaterSenselabel purchased by December 31, 2010.

ASA is seeking to broaden the credit for commercial and multi-unit facilities, as well as to extend the expiration date beyond 2010. Also, while there currently is not a companion bill in the U.S. Senate, ASA expects to have a Senate sponsor soon due in-part to the face-to-face meetings at ASA’s Legislative Fly-In to Washington, D.C., held in late-April.

According to ASA’s Executive VPMike Adelizzi, “It’s very important that all ASA members contact their Member(s) of Congress urging them to co-sponsor this important piece of legislation that will conserve America’s valuable water resources and help to increase your sales.”
