According to the ADP Small Business Report, total private employment among small businesses (U.S. companies with fewer than 50 employees) increased by 44,000 in August.

According to theADP Small Business Report,total private employment among small businesses (U.S. companies with fewer than 50 employees) increased by 44,000 in August. The service-providing sector was shown to be the leading cause of growth with an increase of 52,000 jobs (the goods-producing sector reported a loss of 8,000).

In contrast, employment among medium- and large-size businesses decreased by 6,000.

The ADP Small Business Report is based on data from the ADP National Employment Report, created by the company in partnership with Macroeconomic Advisers LLC.
