F.W. Webb Co. (Burlington, Mass.) will build a 420,000-sq.-ft. distribution center on a 42-acre site in Amherst, N.H. Construction is scheduled to begin in June and plans are for the facility to be operational by spring 2004. The distribution center will have 250,000 sq. ft. of high bay pallet rack storage, 140,000 sq. ft. of parts storage, 30,000 sq. ft. of office area that will include the Roger W. Pope Training Center, and 24 loading docks. All transactions for shipping and receiving will be paperless using bar coding. Purchasing will be done via EDI with all vendors and most major vendors also will use VMI to control inventory requirements.
