Elkay Manufacturing Co. has acquired E.B. Tecnica Mexicana, a large sink manufacturer in Mexico. The acquisition includes manufacturing plants in San Luis Potosi and Mexico City and 20 distribution centers throughout Mexico.

E.B. Tecnica Mexicana has "dominant market share," and the inclusion of the distribution centers offers Elkay a marketing and sales advantage, said John Heilstedt, Elkay's executive vice president/sales and marketing.

"Large-scale wholesaler distribution is practically nonexistent in Mexico," he said.

This is the second international acquisition by Elkay, following its acquisition of Wessan Plumbing Manufacturing Ltd. in Canada last year.

In other news, Elkay said it is the first water cooler and drinking fountain manufacturer to have the majority of its products comply with the entire ANSI/NSF 61 Section 9 standard.
