China Goes Tit For Tat On Steel Dumping
China's Ministry of Commerce announced last week that it was investigating U.S. steelmakers, along with some Russian producers, for selling certain steel products at below market value. China also is investigating whether U.S. steel producers are benefiting from unfair federal and state subsidies tied to U.S. economic stimulus funds.
The announcement was widely seen as retaliation for the U.S. International Trade Commission's investigation of Chinese dumping of OCTG products in a vote taken May 22 and reported in the last edition of PVF e-News. That case threatens to impose steep duties on China's OCTG imports, and China threatens to do likewise on certain U.S. steel exports to its markets. |

Tech Tip #24 by Gregg Marshall
To help you make the most of the Digital Age.
Priceline (http://priceline.com) advertises itself as the place to get cheap flights. I don't know about you, but my travel, mostly business, isn't flexible enough that I can leave sometime between 5 a.m. and midnight. You'd have to plan on a day to get to your destination and a day to get back, a poor use of your time.
But for hotels, I have found Priceline a way to get a better deal than just going to a standard travel website. The negative is you don't know what hotel you are going to stay at until you "win" your bid. And you don't get any hotel loyalty points. But very often you can get a decent room for half the conference rate.
The "trick" is knowing what to bid. That's where the power of Web 2.0 comes in. There are two websites where users post their winning bids, which give you an indication of what various rooms are going for. They also have lists of the hotels you'd get if you win.
So before heading over to Priceline, go to http://www.biddingfortravel.com and/or http://www.betterbidding.com/.
The other excess inventory site is Hotwire (http://hotwire.com). Like Priceline you don't know what hotel you'll get until you book it (although the betterbidding.com has lists of possible hotels). But instead of you bidding, they just show you what the cost will be.
Sometimes I get a better deal on Priceline, sometimes on Hotwire and sometimes a regular site like Hotels.com. It pays to shop around.

What's The Industry Buzzing About?
One way to tell is to visit the website of Supply House Times
. If you scroll to the bottom of the lead page, you will find lists of the "Most E-Mailed" and "Most Popular Articles" (as measured by visitations). This gives a pretty good feel for what industry citizens regard as important.
For example, as of Tuesday, June 9, these were the five "Most E-mailed" articles visited at the Supply House Times website.
