What's A Few Trillion Dollars Among Friends?

Many people are breathing easier now that our government has agreed to various bailouts of financially troubled institutions. But where is that money coming from, and what are the long-term ramifications? Two articles from the brainiacs at Wharton raise troubling questions about the total cost of the bailout and what it means for our fiscal health over the long term.

Hint: it ain't pretty.

Tech Tip #11 by Gregg Marshall Gregg18a.lowres
To help you make the most of the Digital Age.

 I hate voice mail.

You have to call in to retrieve it, and if it's for your cell phone getting your voice mail is burning minutes.

A lot of the messages aren't worth returning, and some people leave their whole life history in each voice mail.

I don't do voice mail any more.

I switched over to PhoneTag (http://www.phonetag.com), until just recently called Simulscribe.

They sent me a magic "code" to key into my cell phone, which sets it to call forward calls when I don't answer to a special telephone number they assigned me when I signed up.

So if you call me and I don't answer, you hear the same message I would have used for my cell phone. You leave your message. PhoneTag transcribes it. I get the message via text message and email (the email includes an MP3 recording of the message).

Because the text message arrives silently, I can see your message while in a meeting ...  Or while overseas.

Feel free to use my referral code to sign up

https://apps.simulscribe.com/signup/r/184315

I even promise to return your call.

What's The Industry Buzzing About?bees

One way to tell is to visit the website of Supply House Times . If you scroll to the bottom of the lead page, you will find lists of the "Most E-Mailed" and "Most Popular Articles" (as measured by visitations). This gives a pretty good feel for what industry citizens regard as important.

For example, as of Monday, Nov. 24, these were the five "Most E-Mailed" articles accessed at the Supply House Times website and passed along.

As part of the North American Industrial Project Database, Industrial Info is monitoring more than 15,700 active projects, as well as 2,400 on hold and 8,800 canceled.

65% -- Capacity utilization rate at U.S. steel mills in November, compared with 91% in August, according to MEPS. The British metals tracking firm pegs global steel prices as down 15% this month.
